Qinghai-Tibetan Railway
The Qinghai-Tibetan Railway is the world's highest railway. It is about 1,142 km long, 960 km of which run at altitudes of more than 4,000m, while 550 km of the distance the train passes through is frozen all year round. The railway has 34 stations some of which are Nachitai, Tuotuo River, Mt. Tanggula pass, Amdo, Nagchu, Damsung, Yangparchen and Lhasa. 7 sightseeing platforms have been built specially for the passengers' enjoyment at places where the train stops for 10-30 minutes. The train can travel at a speed of 160 km/hour and has the most luxurious carriages equipped with modern facilities such as emergency oxygen supply and a pressure-balancing system. It takes about 50 hours to get to Lhasa from Chengdu and one can enjoy watching the wonderful scenery during the daytime.
