Visa, fees & Custom Formalities

Tourist Visa:
Tourists who intend to visit Nepal must hold a valid passport and visa. A tourist entry visa can be obtained from any Nepalese Embassy or Consulate, or other mission offices overseas, or immigration offices located at entry points in Nepal.

Whereas Indian nationals do not require a visa, citizens of all other countries require one. However, visas for children under 10 years of age are free. Two passport-sized photos are mandatory for acquiring a visa.

Chinese citizens are required to apply for their visas at any Nepalese Embassy or Diplomatic mission abroad as there is no provision for them to apply on arrival at a point of entry.

Visas are issued free to Chinese and South Asian passport holders (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Maldives and Pakistan).

Visa Fees:
Single entry: US$ 30 for 60 days
Additional re-entry cost: US$ 25, 40 and 60 for single, double and multiple entry visas respectively

For visitors who intend to re-enter the country within 150 days after leaving the country during the same calendar year, the fee is US$ 50 for 30 days

For visitors intending to stay more than 60 days, the tourist visa extension fee is US$ 50 for 30 days

Business visas (with multiple entry): This can be obtained from the Department of Immigration for a period of one year or five years, upon the recommendation of the Ministry, by paying the equivalent US$ 100 and US$ 250 respectively in Nepalese currency.

Customs Formalities:
All baggage must be declared and cleared through customs on arrival and departure. Goods which are prohibited by the government cannot be brought into or taken out of Nepal.
